A Tribute to Daisy

This was the day last July, when Dan brought Daisy home.
Surprise!

She was only 5 weeks old.
He picked her up in Ohio on his way home from building a Tree House in Wisconsin.

She was so small and cute!

She liked to go "help" Dan build Tree Houses. She when everywhere with him. She rode in our canoe, and even when camping with us. She was not to fond of swimming though.

Daisy was Dan's shadow. She would spend long hours in his office, trying to be the center of Dan's attention. She would start by putting her chin on his lap, then the paws would go up, and it wasn't long before she was up in his lap. She had to be in his lap in the driver's seat when she rode in the car too.

They say "A dog is a man's best friend". Well Daisy was definitely Dan's best friend!
Asher especially liked her too! And so did our neighbor Nicole.

Then one day back in January, Dan and Daisy where Building a Tree House down in North Carolina in a horse pasture. Well Daisy apparently thought the horses were her playmates, but the horses had other thoughts. Several days into the trip one of the horses finally got her. She got kicked in the back leg and broke both of the bones straight through. Dan took her to the Doggy ER where they set the bones, splinted it and wrapped it in a cast. You would think that an injury like that would significantly slow her down, but not Daisy. She was still as full of energy as any young Vizsla. She could still climb onto the furniture, jump up on people, run up and down the stairs, and run off to visit the neighbor dog (in an ice storm), using only 3 legs. Then 2 weeks later we took her back to our vet to have her bones re-x-rayed and we got bad news. The bones had slipped and we only had 2 options, a very expensive orthopedic surgery and 3 months of rehab, or we could put her down. We could not bear the thought of putting our dog so full of life and love down, so we contacted a Vizsla Rescue. They said they would take her and get the surgery done right away. Unfortunately because of there stated mission, when you give a dog to a rescue group they can not give the dog back to you.
Letting Daisy go was difficult but at least we know that she is being taken care of. She is with a foster family until rehab is finished then she will go to another family, who will hopefully love her as much as we do.We'll miss you Daisy!
